i’m a surgical intern and hemorrhoids are one of the most common things i treat. a hemorrhoid banding is a small procedure which uses a surgical rubber band to place it around the hemorrhoid. after a week or so, the band will fall off with the rest of the hemorrhoid.
this is less painful that really making an incision. most of our patients are in extreme pain even even if local anestetics are used.
even if the thing is, most surgeons including for myself perfer the method of using an incision because it is more powerful. and for external hemorrhoids i do not band.
